Clearly there is a conspiracy at foot perpetrated by those conspiring secretive Japanese, which trained professional journalists are investigating right now. Now, I'm not a trained journalist, just a concerned resident, and I've just discovered that the Abe administration has gone as far as planting fake news reports in Japanese in Google News to convince people that there are news reports of these recalls when there are in fact no reports

If I can dig up these facts, what will professionals be able to expose? I await further developments with baited breath.

I don't give a damn about the airbags per se, and I can understand a veteran war reporter not being familiar with the subtleties of the automobile business, but I do wonder why the heck someone who purports to work for Bloomberg is incapable of a bit of basic research and tweets to conclusions which pander to the OMG! Conspiracy! crowd.

That's the nature of the modern media business. Investigative reporting will -- as the media itself will also -- need to adjust to cope with the revolutionary changes that have occurred to information transmission in the past decade or so, in particular.
At the moment, my belief is that we're still in a kind of Purgatory where old style journalism remains powerful because its largely carried out by people who started out when it was dominant and it still has plenty of money built up over long periods without being challenged to fund its activities. New media effectively renders old-style journalists and journalism obsolete.
So-called "real journalism" was never close to the news except by coincidence or pre-arrangement, whereas now news is transmitted in a way that's crowd-oriented, instantaneous, visual, more democratic and abbreviated (possibly turning journalism to jism?)
Whistleblowers are now far more important for information transmission because the Fourth Estate is now merged with the Ancien Regime to perpetuate the status quo (and, more importantly, vested interests). Japanese mainstream journalists cop a (deserved) blast for not reporting on unfavorable events, but their Western counterparts are not far away. Don't see too many Bloomberg reporters looking into their multi-billionaire employer on a witch hunt against fat bastards having fizzy drinks instead of the economic system that allowed him to obtain that wealth on the backs of others so underpaid the ease in obtaining unhealthy lifestyles was more attractive and accessible than healthy living.
Anyway, I've turned way too far to the left...Of course, the greatest impediment to the effects of investigative journalism is the "yeah, whatever, dude" factor that dominates every society on the planet. (Which means the only possible response to this post is "yeah, whatever, dude.")
Fuck...I'll go and take my meds now...
