It would be awesome to have the sun going up at 7 instead of 5...

What he's proposing isn't DST, it's a permanent 2-hour shift in time zone. I don't think that will ever happen but I do think it's a good idea. It's funny because I've always thought the time zone here should be shifted by 2 hours because even in winter the sun comes up too early and the short summer days are just fucking depressing. Daylight till 9PM+ in the Summer is one of the things I miss most about the US.
Anyway, imagine the weeks of endless announcements and speaker trucks leading up to the time change every year if they did implement DST here.

I thought you had your lifestyle more or less fixed that you can set your own time. Sure, the shops will seem to open later and the TV shows will be behind schedule, but there is nothing stopping you getting up two hours earlier if you like.
Hardly making a case against Moving the japanese clock 2 hours forward.

The third article listed other reasons.
1. It wastes air conditioning. In the fall, we're essentially using an extra hour of sunlight in the evening. But in warmer climates, that means more energy is used on air conditioning.

Coligny wrote:And somehow that apply to Japan ? No matter how you set up the opening time in summer... for shops it won't change anything. At home, not much either. We are not in a sand desert country where it's insanely hot by day and insanely cold at night. Japanese hellish summer is hot and humid 24h/24...
