Japan MLITT announced (10-Sep-2013) 23 of the 26 airports under government control reported operating losses in FY2011. The combined loss of all 26 airports reached JPY28,589 million (USD291.7 million). The only airports to report a profit were Sapporo Chitose with JPY1550 million (USD15.8 million), Komatsu with JPY585 million (USD6.0 million) and Kumamoto JPY70 million (USD714,400). Airports with the largest operating loss were Okinawa Naha with JPY5905 million (USD60.3 million), Fukuoka with JPY5299 (USD54.1 million), Tokyo Haneda with JPY5365 million (USD54.7 million), Sendai with JPY3213 million (USD32.8 million) and Niigata with JPY2608 million (USD26.6 million). Okinawa and Fukuoka results were impacted by payment of rent for leased private lands while Tokyo Haneda results were impacted by payment of interest of loans for construction of the airport’s fourth runway in FY2010. Revenue from landing fees across all airports increased 2% year-on-year to JPY64,931 million (USD662.6 million) during the year. Airport construction and development expenses fell 83.0% to JPY13,440 million (USD137.1 million).
