Fourth Crusade was the awesomest and the closest we have to the bumbling modern Merkin jihad for Jeeezus.
We shouldn't forget there's lots of Gaul in the Angry Saxon, who is not a mere abNorman.
And there's probably more Saxon than Anglo in the Merkin than they want to admit, hence things like genocide, religious fanaticism, losing wars and voting for Trump.

I have this thread to blame for reigniting an interest in (re)learning something about the crusades. School was a looong time ago.

Anyway: "The Crusades: The Authoritative History of the War for the Holy Land" by Thomas Asbridge

Good read, but 800 pages so I'll be at it for a while.

Biggest lesson I get from that period of history is that both cultures flourished when exposed to each other, and it was to the benefit of both. Contact of cultures, even if it involves conflict, is better than building a wall/banning all entry on arbitrary criteria/creating an iron curtain.

Looking at the "quality of life" part of it only, the list looks a little more familiar :)

"Affordable" 0.4 out of 10, we surely don't have enough money to pay for these man-eating Aussie flowers. But wait, Japan is 0.3...

Die Antwoord chose to spend their New Years Eve there, so that might have bumped the country up the ranking.

In all fairness, I think that Die Antwoord's choice probably has more to do with that part of Straya being where all the old Rhodesians and Afrikaners chose to flee because it was so close to home and they were less likely to bump into too many kaffir boetie.

If only those Afrikaners could speak proper Dutch, then they would know it is "Het Antwoord"...

Another list: The most exciting cities. Tokyo is #19 and #1 is....Chicago? Really?

The Japanese capital is number two worldwide for the number of people eating out at restaurants, it has good public transport and it’s pretty affordable (for people who live there, anyway). But it’s less cultural and happy than other major world cities.
Aha!?

Now Zürich, Switzerland has made #21, but the verdict sounds soo different:
Zurich is the second safest city in the world: so far, so stereotypical. But it’s also the top city for threesomes and infidelity and scores high for drug use....
Now THAT's exciting, non?

Including happiness instantly tanked the rankings for Tokyo (and basically any city in Japan).

A- isn't bad for safety....but I think it's also difficult to take this too seriously for larger countries...silly to be slamming the US for "not mandating paid leave" despite it being the norm, not the exception. (it is mandated at the state level for many states)

That being said...I still need to make HQ send me to Zurick for the threesome parties.
