Obit: Dr. Eugene Aksenoff

Postby Yokohammer » Fri Aug 08, 2014 8:36 am

Dr. Eugene Aksenoff of the International Clinic in Nishi Azabu has died at the age of 90.
(I thought there was a "Dead Gaijin" thread around here somewhere, but can't find it).

Article in Japanese ... nothing in English yet, that I can find.

Dr. Aksenoff was a great guy. He opened the International Clinic sometime in the 1940s and in many cases treated impoverished foreigners (and Japanese) for free. At one time he was accused of being a spy for Russia and his clinic was raided by the police, but I think that turned out to be a smokescreen for some sort of Japanese governmental malfeasance. He treated me for a couple of issues back in the mid 70s (I paid).

Just a heads up for anyone else who might have known him.

RIP

Ah, thank you.

I entered "Dead Gaijin" in the search box and came up with a bunch of unrelated threads, but not the right one for some reason.

Can't move it myself, so please do so if necessary (sorry 'bout that).

An international clinic is a good place to meet with random occupation/cover foreign sleeper agent without raising suspicion. Can then uplink to Moscow without blowing the agent cover too easily.

You kids borneded after the cold war dun't know no jack shit aboot the spy trade do ya ?

I went to Dr. Askenoff back in the day for vaccinations and anti-malaria drugs before doing some third-world travel. One time while I was waiting Antonio Inoki came walking in and and tried to look inconspicuous when I noticed him. Inoki is know for his ties to North Korea so maybe this guy really was a spy for the commies.

Isn't this is the country where politicians suggested every prefecture share the burden of all that Fukushima waste...Russia has more to fear from Japanese hivemind than Japan ever had to fear from communism.
