Probably won't get them til next year or so. Did they even confirm the cause of the fire yet? There were loads of outlets that jumped the gun with FUD, claiming the authorities said it was an EV battery caused fire and the ICE vehicles were empty of oil/gas.....despite the authorities saying the source of the fire was still unknown and the ICE vehicles have oil and minimal fuel.

Back to reality...

A recent study conducted by AutoInsuranceEZ using data from the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board) showed that electric cars in the US caught fire at a rate of
25.1 per 100,000 sales compared to
1,530 for ICE vehicles and
3,475 for hybrids.

It doesn't really matter what caused the fire, it is the fact that there were lithium batteries which got to a dangerous temperature by some cause or other, which means that any fire is unable to be contained. Such that the emphasis of current activity is to stop the steel hull structure collapsing, because putting the fire out is an impossibility. You just have to wait for 250 tons of lithium to burn itself out.

It doesn't really matter that something is low risk, when the consequences are catastrophic.
Commercial airliners are low risk, but the consequences of those rare accidents are large, so we have black boxes and investigations.

Now that I've watched the video...he's really coming from a place of unnecessary emotion but many of his points are valid.

In my "annoying EV twat" defense, it was a knee jerk response to the framing on the coverage of this story. Many of those of us in the Tesla space whoa are used to a barrage of false stories "Tesla suddenly catches fire!!" when very often the vehicle isn't even a Tesla, and "suddenly catches fire" means hit a pole at 100km/h. No doubt if you manage to light one, it is a nasty affair to say the least. This is obviously a bigger deal when it's hundred of EVs in an enclosed space, regardless of ignition origin.

Capable fire suppression systems need to be in place on those transport ships and other places you have mass amounts of vehicles stored in enclosed areas. At the racetracks I frequent, I've seen some were rejecting EVs because they weren't confident in their firefighting equipment. He's right overall in that it's a safety concern that needs to be addressed in places where it can really get out of hand fast. On the other hand, there are novel ways to extinguish battery fires and he's overstating how difficult they are to put out with water (which is what is currently used and is much more effective than he makes out) I can't speak for all the other manufacturers but I do know Tesla has employed extra reinforcement on the bottom of battery pack for tactile damage protection and fire retardant insulation to isolate cells should the rare case of an internal fire take place. Most manufacturers have at least some form of protection. https://www.idtechex.com/en/research-re ... 3-2033/897 Maybe that protection needs beefing up but even that won't make up for the lack of adequate fire suppression systems on the ships.

His last part about parking EVs at home, in a garage, I'd personally rather have a carport with solar canopy to charge the EV rather than have em plugged in at a connected garage but either way, at least in most places, there are vapor barrier requirements and one would hope you have smoke detectors to help you GTFO in the event of any type of fire.

Having driven the entire SEXY lineup and a Hyundai, I had no range anxiety. With chargers popping up errywhere, it's less of a concern though I would not recommend something with a really low range estimate if you plan on long distance driving.
