Malaysians to have nightmares soon in Japan

Malayan tapirs to have nightmares soon in Japan
The Malaysian Insider | 27 November 2015
Sahabat Alam Malaysia (SAM) is astonished to read news report of an ink agreement between the Japanese ambassador and the minister of natural resources and environment (NRE) and director-general of the Wildlife Department, to send a pair of Malayan tapirs to Japan as part of a conservation research programme.
SAM is keen to know the rationale behind this move as unlike the Sumatran rhinos, tapirs have been known to be breeding successfully at the Sungai Dusun Wildlife Conservation Centre. How and in what way will our tapirs benefit from this so-called conservation research programme?...
...SAM is not at all convinced about the Nagasaki Bio Park. It is in fact a zoo and botanical garden housing around 2000 animals from various species.
From the pictures on its website, one can easily conclude that it is more into commercialisation of wildlife where feeding of animals is encouraged with food vending machines by their exhibits...
...With regards to animal welfare standards in Japan, SAM would like to recall conditions of bears in bear parks, condemned as medieval by wildlife animal groups.
Japanese zoos maybe clean but they are not animal friendly: inadequate space, little enrichment and no kindness.

The older I get the less I like the idea of zoos in general but Japanese zoos really are fucking awful.

I won't name the zoo but I know a dude that owns one here and I've seen some nightmarish shit on the not so public side. In particular, are fucking huuuuge ass bear in a cage barely big enough for it to turn around. I don't know too many details but I know he has made big $$ selling animals to rich ass dudes overseas. (emirates, US, Russia, etc.) It's a really shady trade...

Are there any decent zoos in Japan that don't look like animal prisons? I'm only familiar with the shitholes in Ueno and Inokashira so maybe I'm being unfair. I've never been to either one but I've seen enough photos and heard enough bad things from people I know that aren't vegan PETA nutbag-types that I have no desire to give either place any of my money.

Compared to the Himeji zoo, which is like Guantanamo for animals, the Kobe zoo looks somewhat good. But it is all relative: the latter is not that decent either.

Judging by how many people pen up or cage their dogs, I think there is a pretty fucked idea of how much space an animal needs. They freak out when I tell them my pup isn't penned up while I'm away.

japans cage-like zoo is one of showa(昭和) era remains.
in my elementary school days, there were many hybrid dogs chained with a hand-made tattered wooden tiny shed alongside roads here and there. mostly those hybrid dogs were extraordinarily bestial and i and other classmates used to have fun to abuse them by throwing a small stone or hitting by a twig on my way home from school. it was one of good memories in showa era of mine.
