According to a survey on poverty in Okinawa by the Okinawa Prefecture Government announced on Friday, one of four mothers and one if two fathers of poor families bring up their children enduring much stress, as they work 6 to 7 days a week to make ends meet.

Totally discounting the effect of the military bringing in zillions of dollars and jobs into the Okinawa economy*, how is it the Ryukyu peoples manage to to such total fuck-ups† compared to other (military) island economies like Guam or Hawaii?

† I deal with before-the-revision Okinawan translators who are over 55yrs old in Tokyo all the time. To a man (mostly woman), they're decent people and MUCH better than regular Kanto translators, Japanese or gaijin.

Still, local political and business leaders, as well as landowners, have long believed U.S. bases are essential to support the prefectural economy, where per capita income has been always ranked the lowest among Japan’s 47 prefectures and the jobless rate has been the nation’s highest for years.

its revealed that okinawan prefectual income has been calculated by a method lowering it more than the other prefectures incomes.
but but but..its also found that okinawan prefectual income will be ranked 28th(NOT lowest 47th) if it is recalculated by the same method of kochi prefecture.

Hawaii - adminstered by the USA
Guam - same
Okinawa - administered by Japan
