They stopped making them in Japan a while back.
I've never owned one but I have been tempted.

I shall continue to treasure my XR250, another great workhorse from the Honda stable. No longer in production the one I got was probably one of the very last off the line. I found Honda winds up the options available for their bikes pretty quick when they stop making them (rear carriers and such). The shacho of the bike shop I go to says they are "tsumetai".

There is not a lot of money to be made selling small bikes, Honda etc prefer to sell big bikes with a bigger profit margin. I guess the ramen guy will be travelling by three wheel scooter from now on.

Putting everyone except professional drivers in smaller cars would be better. You are sitting on your hairy ass in an armchair pushing pedals and turning a wheel, safely out of the rain and consuming a dwindling resource. Please do it in a smaller box.

I think, if we had modernised little motorbikes like eco-friendly Honda Cubs, there would be no need at all for a car for most urban city-slickers. Unless you have to move stuff around all the time or you live out in the inaka, a moped/scooter is all your typical saralimen need.

Yes, exactly. They can lane-filter and/or get out of the way, not adding to traffic congestion. Need less space to park. More fuel efficient than cars. Less powerful and less mass, so lower potential for damage when things go wrong. But sadly very misunderstood by most (idiot) drivers.

Sure, but that's clearly not Japan. They have all but been legislated off the roads here. Okinawa is part of the one-size-fits-all national policy. Parking very strictly enforced, soft targets for road rules very much bike focused and cars forgiven all sins, yet here more than anywhere the poorly skilled and the crowding need to be addressed.

Not so sure... following some biker yootoob channel, seems emissions rules are planete wide bonkers... the last grandfathered vehicles are getting way too far behind in terms of design or features to stay in production... it's the kind of stuff that kills most models. The cub can not be upgraded to benefit from grandfathered homologation. But might be getting too medieval to find enough demand.

Sure, but I find it relatively uncommon compared to the reverse situation of car drivers wanting to drive through bike riders already keeping up with the flow of traffic.

Matsuki, in this case the scooter has the right to go, and the car should wait. That is an elementary traffic rule, not?

If it's like MO describes, yeah, you let them go and make the turn when it's clear. No problem with that. I'm talking turning on your signal and begin making the turn so far ahead that the bike/scooter isn't yet in the equation. (sometimes not even visible) They should see the signal and recognize that if there are people crossing, you'll be stuck with your ass end in their path still. (though out of the way of the flow of regular traffic) Instead, often times I've seen them slam on their brakes at the last second or speed up and swing to the right, cutting off regular traffic.

Have to go to the whip to check the book with pikshure. But the process for left turn was
1: turning signal
2: rear-left mirror check
3: as approaching the turn move the car as close as possible to the left sidewalk.
4: check for bicycle and pedestrian them proceed to the turn.

It's no longer in the digital english version of the book. Maybe because of the conflict with the care needed against the overhang inside the turn. But since 110% of the local moron start going full right before making the left turn the rule might have died from exhaustion by herself...

Sorta, notice how fast the bike blows by the truck doing the recording that's what I'm talmbout....BUT the closer I look at the vid, the truck driver also did the oh too common "We Japanese Sutairu" turn signal a fraction of a second before braking and turning so it's a case of idiot on idiot. Either way, getting rid of riding in the gutter would have prevented this shit.

Um, I got my driver's license in the Netherlands, and there this is standard procedure. And they do train you very much on this during driving lessons, for the simple fact that there are lots of bicycles on the road.

The reason why you should move your car close to the curb before turning is to block any cycles or bikes trying to wriggle their way in between the curb and your car.
