A Japanese labor union has reprimanded a Tokyo company for requiring employees to pass a quiz to get paid holidays.
Union officials said a branch chief at the vending machine firm, Japan Beverage Tokyo, emailed the quiz to junior employees at his branch in May 2016.
It asked them to list a group of Tokyo railway stations in order of sales revenue. It said employees who answered the quiz perfectly would have a chance to take paid leave.
The chief then sent a later email stating that none of the employees had passed.
The union officials noted that Japanese labor law guarantees annual paid leave for all workers.
