Image . Japan moves, at last , to curb horrific suicide rate
Reuters AlertNet, - TOKYO, May 1- The woman was desperate. Her son had already tried to kill himself once and she was terrified he would try again. "He keeps saying he wants to die," she told a Tokyo suicide hotline... the very fact that a suicide hotline exists at all is encouraging, experts say, as a Japanese government once hesitant to acknowledge what was seen as a shameful issue...

This morning a Jinshin-Jiko happened at one of the Yamanote line station at very early morning over 5am, and caused a bit of delay in Yamanote line. I thought I can avoid this kind of delay as I travel very early but this morning proved that I was wrong.. Anyway, every time I hear about a Jishin-jiko happen, I feel sad, I wonder if it is really no other way out for that person? :(

My late dad said that suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Underneath this post is a button labeled PM that is open to anyone who is feels suicidal and feels that there is no one they can turn to - even if it is just run-of-the-mill depression.

I've watched Jinshin-Jiko at Komagome station on the Yamanote line TWICE in five years from my friend's office window. Both times, the person's face attracted my attention long before the jump. You know how you can catch a person's eye... well, our eyes met, locked and then both jumped quickly. Eeeeew. 8O

It's just a fluke. I've seen your photo and you're handsome enough. You are not a face that would make people want to jump.

if that is your way out, that is your way out. Too bad they can't think of anything more promising than killing themselves. At least they don't try to take others with them when they go, like in some countries.

I think suicide is the worst thing you can do to yourself... maybe if society wasn't so hard and cold, this wouldn't happen. And good mental health care is always a plus.

Death is nature's way of saying "Hey. You're no longer

I think that to be at the point where you would kill yourself, you have to believe that there are no other options in your life. For me, depression has been a time when I felt that I was not in control of my own life - that I had no choices.

I feel certain sitiuation is really no way out, like getting a terminal illness. And honestly speaking I will do the same thing if something this bad happen to me one day.

I don't think you can anticipate that sort of thing. Just while terminal illness is mentioned, my own experience would lead me to suggest to anyone who may be unfortunately faced with it in the future, to think very carefully before telling the person that they are dying. There are some things you don't need to know.

Bullcrap and poppycock!!

There is ALWAYS a way out.

Maybe not the way you want to go, but there is ALWAYS a way.

Suicide is NOT a viable option.

I had a look through the website. I think that I couldn't condemn some families who live with a terminal patient, having to watch them suffer and literally disintegrate, to want to see them slip away peacefully and not stay awake at night, terrified by the idea that morphine might not be strong enough anymore. However, giving a legal status to euthanasia could be dangerous, a nice way for a few shady people to get rid of unwanted witnesses and other paranoia...

And I agree with A.O: you always have choices, and should always take responsibility for them. When you commit suicide, no explanatory note will take away the lasting impression that you didn't give a sh*t for anyone but yourself. I don't have many guideing posts in my life, but one of them is definitely to weigh out my choices and chose the path that will cause the least suffering, as I can determine at that point in time.

Suicide is a wretched way to go. Terminally ill, well, I think that is a case by case issue.. I am sure they can pump you full of drugs so that you'd be on the trip of you life for a long time.
But then I cannot speak about that as I don't have a terminal illness.. knock on wood.

I guess some life is better than none.. who knows really.

Recently, somebody that I knew committed suicide by hanging. He was only an acquaintance really, but his ex-wife and his 12 year old daughter are my good friends. They all used to get on well and there was no ugly battles or anything like that and joint custody of the little girl which was all very fair and adult. They have been on a helluva ride since it happened through disbelief, anger, sadness, dispair and guilt as nobody saw it coming - he hid it very well.

Fine for him, he checked out when he was good and ready but how do you explain to a 12 year old that he didn't want to stick around and see her grow up. He left everything organised, papers and documents filed and cross referenced so he had planned it for a while. It made me angry as it seemed like an exceptionally selfish act.
