Doomsday cult makes waves in Japan
Tuesday May 6, 2003 / The Guardian, UK
...any sympathy this might have generated was destroyed by a statement from the group that said: "People without the ears to hear will all face death."
The Japanese media said the cult released a pamphlet last year urging members to "exterminate all humankind" if their leader died.

Cult decamps, issues bizarre statement about Tama-chan
Japan Today, Tuesday, May 6, 2003 at 09:31 JST
GIFU -- About 50 members of the Panawave Laboratory, a cult known for its white attire... in a bizarre development issued a statement about Japan's celebrity seal Tama-chan... a memo in the name of its leader calling for the protection of the bearded seal, which has been spotted in rivers around Tokyo since last year and has drawn much attention in Japan.
...Panawave was "driven to carry out" the feeding of Tama-chan, a popular seal that has been spotted in rivers around Tokyo since last year. Panawave appears to be linked to a group that attempted to capture Tama-chan in March in Yokohama, but failed.

Seems to me to always come down to one charismatic individual. In this case it's the Great Queen. Not a very successful cult. I don't suppose it'll last long (maybe only 10 more days! ), certainly not the 2000 years of another cult led by a charismatic individual that springs to mind. :P

These guys are almost as weird as the Raelians (sp?), those guys who formed CloneAid and claimed to clone human babies. They're out of the news since they couldn't produce evidence that they had actually cloned a child. But panawave scares me in a different way--they actually have called for extermination of mankind (or something to that effect).

I suspect that the members of these 8O wacked out 8O Japanese cults are full of the people that were on the receiving end of severe bullying. I have no evidence to back this whatsoever - it's just a pondering.

At any rate, if the world was going to end in 9 days, would you dress in white, wrap trees in cloth and threaten everyone on the planet? Me neither.

Just for fun, take some food, wrap it in white cloth, then stick it in the microwave and cook it for 2 minutes. See what happens. You get hot food.
