170,000 children disappear!

The population of children under age 15 in Japan declined for the 22nd straight year, it was learned Sunday.

The figure stood at a little more than 18 million as of April 1, down 170,000 from last year.

The percentage of children in the overall population was the lowest ever at 14.1 percent, dropping 0.2 percentage point from a year earlier

Compared with the previous year, the percentage of children in Tokyo increased by 0.1 percentage point...

And if that last number is significant, my arrival last year contributed to 0.1% of that 0.1% increase.

Half of over-60s who get Sars will die, say scientists

The elderly face much greater danger from the Sars virus than previously realised, with a new estimate suggesting that half of those over 60 who are sent to hospital with the pneumonia-like illness will die.

Couple that with the fact that no children have died of the disease and you have a ready made solution to the aging population of the western world.
