It's actually far worse than that. A whole generation of young people were raised reading textbooks on his "findings", many of them conveniently reinforcing the misguided view that Japanese people (other than the Ainu) have been here in excesses of 3,000 years.

I read one museum piece about how Japan has one of the oldest pottery cultures... sorry, I'm not a historian, but that seems completely at odds with what I learned in school about Egypt and China.

::sigh:: I guess whoever said that "school isn't for education, but for indoctrination" was a pretty sharp guy.

I don't know how many (if any) textbooks this guy's "research" has influenced.

JAPAN is having to hastily rewrite its entire pre-history after an archeologist known as "The Hands of God" was revealed to have systematically faked his fantastic discoveries. ... full-scale investigation by the Japanese Archeological Association has confirmed the worst - that Mr Fujimura , 53, was committing fraud on a vast scale.
He entirely fabricated his astonishing finds at 159 of the 178 sites he worked on, it concluded.
