Official costs of Tokyo Olympics up by 22% to $15.4 billion

The official cost of the postponed Tokyo Olympics has increased by 22%, the local organizing committee said Tuesday in unveiling its new budget.
In an on-line news conference, organizers said the Olympics will now cost $15.4 billion to stage. This is up from $12.6 billion in last year’s budget.
The added $2.8 billion is the cost of the one-year delay. Added expenses come from renegotiating contracts and measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

What is hilarious to me are all these country-level government officials making statements in 2021 about the "2020 Tokyo Olympics" regarding how to proceed....and the "Ganbare NIpppon will rise again! Orinpikkusu!" talk has gone pretty silent as the officials seem to not understand the delayed vaccine roll out and uncertainty around tickets/attendance, coupled with the SOP lack of accommodations makes the idea of flying in from kaigailand a very unlikely proposition to be entertained. Then you have the local populous wanting to keep the potential covid carrying, bread-eater, foreign barbarians form infecting Japan...while more then likely any visitors will already be vaccinated while the local vaccinations are just getting started. Pulling a few all ganbare all nighters will not fix this clusterfuck of negligence and indecisiveness. I'm pretty sure it's going forward in a bubble with something silly like cardboard cut outs of fans. (sponsors?)

One key date will be March 25 when the torch relay is to start in Japan. It will involve 10,000 runners across the country. Many see this as a deadline for deciding to go forward or to cancel.

With the number of vaccines crossed by the number of thechnologies used by said vaccines I'm pretty sure that statement like yours can be 100% true for one brand and 100% false for another with every possible percentage available on the alphabet applying to the remaining others...

The virologist interview I listened to recently said this is really still an unknown but a vaccinated individual as a potential carrier wouldn't be highly infectious or likely cause the types of clusters we see now. (basically, focus on getting everyone vaccinated, not these types of potential, yet not so likely scenarios) He also was pretty adamant that the virus is very fragile and doesn't last on surfaces....you're not likely to get infected by touching things in public....unless you're one of the idiots licking public toilet seats. (basically, no need to disinfect EVERYTHING)

I have the feeling that it could be a little like with Fukushima. "No no, the core has not melted" "surely not melted", "maybe melted?", "not melted, molten!" etc. And after six months or so, when most people were used to and even tired of the news anyway, then "OK, we knew from the beginning that it's melted. we might as well pretend to be sorry". Likely crowd control to avoid panic IMO.

In the Nolimpics probably rather geared towards businesses, who'd lose their bribes and athletes, who have tortured their bodies in preparation for nothing. Just a thought, though.
