If you add Yokohama and Saitama into the mix, we're at 1694 already. Still no match for Europe or the US, luckily (if these figures are accurate :liar: ).

Why not? Tottori has only 19 cases overall and basically no growth. Looks like a safe place; we should all go there and enjoy that safety.

Actually, I went to Tottori. Twice. Using the Go To Travel subsidies.

But I would have gone anyway, because my daughter needed to have some entrance interviews at the University there.

WOO-HOO! It's only 944 today (and the rate ought to slow down since the New Years holiday is starting).

Funny thing. Testing rate up, "cases" up. A steady 3-4% positive the whole "pandemic" long. No matter how few or many tests. Let's scamdemic.

So, magically, the "virus" has no seasonality in Japan, unlike any documented influenza-like illness in the history of man, but just occurs as regularly as an NHK-man visits to extort money. Quack!

There has been an uptick recently but I think we are still under 100 active cases in Ehime. 8 new ones today. Tokushima has under 10 active cases, so we are doing about as well as anybody these days. Hope everyone else is fine.

My strong as an ox, 49 year old, brother-in-law farming in Ehime mysteriously died of a heart attack last spring. My wife and I were uninvited to the funeral. My younger brother-in-law from Tokyo who took over the farm has had rocks thrown at his car with Tokyo license plates so he only drives the farm truck now. His neighbors and especially the a-holes at the JA are still bitching about having diseased tokyoïte in their midst.

I don't think you are right and you should categorically not be spreading this kind of denial/conspiracy theory. This is not some argument about politics, this is health and people's lives. Are doctors and nurses part of the scam? That's the only way to explain the increased workload and number of patients they are reporting.

The death of a family member is always a sad thing, especially if they go young. One well-known infection, influenza, can cause a six-fold increase in risk of heart attacks (the findings were more pronounced in those experiencing a first heart attack). Without a test result confirming one or the other, it can't be known what contributed to the very sad outcome. It is terrible that the locals blame the city folk, and worse that they would stoop to throwing rocks.

Check any covid tracker. It's been at 4% of results positive for months.

Flu season explains increased workload for healthcare workers. Happens every year Nov-Apr. And 2020 was just the first time it was breathlessly reported hour by hour every single day. US hospitals have a base rate of 85% occupancy for ICU. Simply not economically viable otherwise. The rate gets pushed up to near or at full capacity most winter seasons. It's just the first time you're hearing about it.

I checked a reputable COVID tracker, as you can see, and it doesn't agree with you. In fact, if you want to focus on seasonal influenza, doctors and nurses are reporting a vastly decreased number of influenza cases since handwashing and mask wearing became widespread back in March. That applies to Japan and other countries so it just goes to show that most influenza is preventable by better hygiene, masks and distance.

You don't have any evidence for your 4% claim, so there is no reason to believe you. You are pushing a dangerous conspiracy theory about the "scamdemic" and you should stop it because lives are at stake.

Oh, you're one of those guys! Influenza is down because masks and hand washing. Covid is up because not enough masking, sanitizing and anti-social distancing.

Sanitation is always good, as you want to avoid things like norovirus (fecal-oral transmission). When it comes to aerosol transmission in the case of covid, the smallest exhaled droplets capable if carrying virus can travel 30 metres, and pass through a mask like a mosquito through a chain link fence. You'd need to hide out in a clean room, or wear a self contained hazmat suit to stop those.

Image

See that 4% up in the top right corner? Been that way for months. You can test 5000/week and find 200 positives for 4% rate. Or test 250,000 and find 10,000 positive tests. Oh, scary! But wait, still 4%. No greater proportion of the tested population is positive than before.

The 4% refers to the total positives from all tests. We don't want that. We want the trend. To assess the trend look at the number of tests per day. They rose only slowly until, according to this graph, recently they fell. Now look at the graph for the number of daily cases. Oh wow, they are clearly rising very fast! If what you say is true and the positive test rate is invariable then they should look the same, but somehow they don't. At all. Not even a little bit. And also consider the fact that medical professionals are reporting that their hospitals are coming under increased pressure from COVID patients. Not influenza patients, but COVID patients. Perhaps you think they are incapable of spotting the difference and are being mislead by the reporting or perhaps you believe they are part of the scamdemic conspiracy. If so, you have my sympathy and I won't be bothering you again on this topic. In fact influenza cases have all but disappeared this year:

400899 - Copy.png

A mere 0.5% of the average number of cases for the first 15 weeks of the current year.

https://www.nippon.com/en/japan-data/h00867/

You also seem to believe that the only infection route for an influenza or corona virus is the aerosol route via virus size particles. Why is that when it is well known that touching a contaminated surface and then touching the face is a common route of transmission for these viruses? Ditto larger particles from coughs, sneezes, shouting, singing, talking etc.

All in all, your beliefs make zero sense. In many, maybe even most, circumstances that would be your business and no-one else's. On this topic however, that is not true. You are risking becoming a spreader and you are encouraging other people to risk becoming spreaders too. That poses a danger to all of us.

And finally a plea. If you are going to post data to support your arguements, then you also need to post the source. Otherwise it is worth very little.

I'm not sure I always believe figures, I believe some numbers are accurate but others I might take with a pinch of salt

Here's the wiki entry on it

North America 332,011 dead cases 18,360,680 - Deaths 906 Per Million of people
South America 10,606,820 - Deaths 820 per million of Population
Europe 16,140,162 - Deaths 784 Per Million

East Asia 8,466 Dead - Deaths 5 per Million?

Not a chance I do your homework for you WS. Well, maybe just a bit:
•Spread from touching surfaces is not thought to be a common way that COVID-19 spreads
https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nc ... reads.html
https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/catchin ... 22317.html
Now, your masks are a barrier to all the larger droplets, just like a screen is a barrier to stream of water from a hose. But, in similar fashion to the water hitting a screen, the larger drops are converted into a fine mist which spreads a great deal of aerosols.

There is more than one way to explain busy hospitals. Here's one. We'll use the UK this time as an example.

The population is 67 million. It was 59 million in 2000. So up 14%. Now we'll look at NHS hospital beds. 160,000 in 2020, but there were 240,000 in 2000. So down 33%. And they say the hospitals are busy now. Why could that be? Can you work it out?

As the man in your article says there is some transmission via surfaces and nothing at all wrong with erring on the side of caution - and that's where I'll stay for the moment. Hospital bed numbers in the UK are irrelevant to this discussion and do not explain either the fall in influenza cases or the rise in COVID cases. The number of cases of influenza have fallen dramatically as a result of hands, face, space. I know that may be highly inconvenient to your prejudices and conspiracy theories but that is what has happened.

BTW why do you think nurses and doctors wear masks in hospitals? For decoration? Because they don't know any better? Because they help reduce infection and cross infection?
It is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

- Macbeth (Act 5, Scene 5)
