Even commercials are getting into the act: One recent ad shows a foreign student speaking Japanese in fluent Osaka dialect. And soccer and baseball players interviewed on TV in Japanese are living proof that mastering a second language is achievable.

This seems the most significant to me. The deep-seated belief that Japanese are the only ones who can speak Japanese properly, the language double standard, is something that needs to be done away with, and can, through popular media.
