Gaijin Video Sickens

Postby ramchop » Thu Jul 10, 2003 8:57 am

Thirty-six junior high school students were taken to a hospital Tuesday after becoming dizzy while watching an educational video at their school in Matsue, Shimane Prefecture.
The city-run school said Wednesday the students were diagnosed as having motion sickness, apparently due to the swaying images in the video. One of the students remained absent Wednesday.

The students were transported to the hospital in taxis.

The video about classroom activities in U.S. junior high schools was shown to 294 first-year students for about 15 minutes in a gymnasium that was darkened with curtains, the school said, promising to take measures to prevent a recurrence.

So American junior high school students move too damn fast?

Are the Japanese hyper-sensitive to motion in video or something?

This a translation problem of the term "swaying images". The terms they were grasping for was the TV 'picture was zig-zag rolling', that is, the TV picture was rolling with vertical lines folding over in a zig-zag shape. I'm sure Japanese has a succient word/kanji for this but I can't think of it in Japanese (or English). :?
