The Tokyo High Court sentenced former Tokyo Metropolitan Assemblyman Hisakazu Fukushima, 43, to three years in prison, suspended for four years, for the rape of a club hostess, overruling a lower court decision that gave him a three-year prison sentence.
As reasons for overruling the previous decision, presiding Judge Taketaka Nakagawa said Fukushima had taken social responsibility for his crime by resigning from the metropolitan assembly after his sentence and repaying his salary.
