5 Japanese, 1 Chinese held for Bt10M credit card fraud
BANGKOK — Five Japanese men and a Chinese man
have been arrested with credit card fraud for
allegedly using counterfeit credit cards to purchase
luxury goods worth 4 million baht (about $95,000),
police said Friday. Acting on a tip-off, the police arrested Masaki Okita,
34, on Wednesday while he was using a fake credit
card and passport to purchase an expensive watch at
a shopping mall in downtown Bangkok.
The police said they suspect that the second passports
held by each man are forged, adding that the names in
those suspected forged passports match the names on
the fake credit cards.
According to the police, the six arrested said they had
used fake credit cards to buy goods worth a total of
10 million Baht in Germany, Malaysia and Singapore.
They suspect that 13 people are involved in the forgery
group and they are searching for the other seven people.
