It doesn't make sense to say he is Japanese in Japan. When was the last time you saw an American news article about a criminal who was listed as an American?

In Japan it would read:
Bob Mills, an American, killed a Chinese prostitute.

In America:
Bob Mills killed a Chinese prostitute.

In China:
Bob Mills, an American, killed a prostitute.

The only notable thing here (besides the crime) is she was Chinese, not that he was Japanese.

Why? Why are black people special? Why does everyone else on the planet work under one set of rules and black people have to have a whole other set?

Jack, I never said "I" was being discriminated against or infered it.

my point is the medias double standards, I have read several NP`s that state unreal assumtions that the criminals were foreign...
ie:
"they spoke broken japanese"
"the police think they are foreigners"
"its thought that chinese are involved" etc etc

yet here the police have had phone calls the client placed to request the prostitute, no inference of his nationality,,,however if he was thought to be foreign that would always be printed.

This is a fact foreign people are under the microscope and japanese can do far worse and recieve less attention. If you are fine with that thats your choice, but that is a fact wether you like it or not.

BTW I`m not black, not that that has anything to do with this story.

what i would like to see in japan is more focus on actions,responsiblity,and behaviour rather than simplistic crime=foreigner...

In this case, a true reporter would have investigated and reported on the fact as to whether the man spoke fluent Japanese, seemed to be Japanese, etc...

But it didn't happen. Lazy reporting I'd say. And when they do catch him, his name and personal information will most likely be held secret until the proper time..

I don't see how race other than the fact that the Japanese media pointed out the prozzies Chinese ethnicity, and didn't try to investigate the perps racial or ethnical background, even with an assumption, or word from the hotel manager, got inserted into this topic.

I say again why would a reporter ask if he spoke Japanese in Japan. If you can show me where American, British, NZ, Australia, reporters check to see weather a criminal can speak English I will relent. Otherwise you are just getting your panties in a wad over nothing.

Please check CNN.com, MSNBC, etc and get back to me if you can find one instance where this occurs.

YOu are assuming the perp was Japanese... Establishing his language skills could prove he in fact was a gaijin.. or at least not proficient at japanese.

Like in an Asian American area in the US, they will say CHINESE AMERICAN,

In a white neighborhood, they do say WHITE SUSPECT.

And in a black neighborhood, they will say BLACK SUSPECT.

It all depends on how thorough and descriptive the journalist or reporter is. And what details they pick up or pay attention to.
