In 2002 Nick Baker, a 32 year old British cook, and father of a one year old son, traveled to Japan in advance of the World Cup. He was arrested at Tokyo's Narita Airport when ecstasy pills and cocaine were found in the false bottom of a suitcase. Nick protested he had been duped by a traveling companion, James Prunier, but Japanese police allowed Prunier to leave the country without questioning him. While Nick was spending some 10 months in solitary confinement for apparently "refusing to confess", it happened that Prunier was arrested in Belgium for allegedly tricking three other British travelers into smuggling drugs.
A man who spent four years in a Japanese prison for a crime he says he did not commit feared he would not survive his ordeal.
Patrick Loughlin, from Penley, near Wrexham, spoke out on Wednesday following his release last week from Nagoya Prison, in Osaka after serving his four-year sentence.
On May 9 2002 Chris left for Zurich with the intention of spending a couple of days working on Shahine's music and then travelling to Tokyo to work with 'G' Thompson. Just before Chris left to catch his flight to Tokyo, Andre asked him to take a garment bag with clothes in to his brother 'G'. The bag was too big to fit into Chris's suitcase so Andre offered to loan Chris a bigger case of his own.
Chris agreed to do this, he had no reason to mistrust Andre.
He thought they had a good working relationship, the suitcase looked fine, he left his own suitcase at Andre's house in Zurich intending to pick it up on the next visit.
At Narita airport Chris went through customs and was stopped and searched.
The suitcase Andre had given him had a false lining and hidden inside was 3 kilos of marijuana, vacuum packed and sandwitched between 2 sheets of plastic.
Chris was arrested.
Of course he denied any knowledge of the marijuana and protested his innocence.

I was of course stopped at the japanese customs. The guy asked what it was in an uncertain engrish, i replied "it's a game system", "PS2 ? Game cube ?" he asked. Then he opened the box and he just laugh his ass off at my face probably thinking that this was the latest top notch game system from Europe.
While i was leaving the customs area i could still hear him laugh from afar telling the story to his colleagues.
