Three Japanese Buddhist pilgrims on their way back from Bodh Gaya to Calcutta have been roughed up and looted of valuables worth $25,000 by a gang of robbers in Jharkhand.

I was wondering the same thing. Just what were they carrying that was worth $25,000? The story only mentions camera, passpots, plane tickets and travel documents. Either those were some hella expensive cameras, or they left out some info.

Having aluded to the poor "pilgrim" sense of these folks, I have to say I have been guilty of the same thing.

While in Uganda kayaking a couple of years ago, I was stopped by some teens with AK-47s ... after a loooong "talk" they convinced me that I was a little wacked to be traveling with $6,000 worth of hi-tech stuff when the villages I passed weren't worth a half of that amount in materal goods. I offered to make a 'donation' to their village if they, "would have me for dinner. " We all broke out laughing.

The meal was vegggies only, fuu-fuu, squash, ground-nuts, etc.
