University of Tokyo to ponder Japan's manufacturing magic
The University of Tokyo is about to turn the assembly line into a place of higher learning.
In a rare move for a state-run university, the school plans to set up a research center by year-end to study the technology and management techniques that drive Japan's manufacturing industry, university officials said.
In cooperation with major companies, the Monozukuri (Manufacturing) Management Research Center will analyze different manufacturing methods and management models and relay the results to overseas companies and organizations, the officials said.
