Naoko Takahashi, who is one of my favorite all time J-Chicks and an Olympic gold medalist, is fighting for a chance to run in Athens!

She will be attempting to win her seventh consecutive marathon when she takes to the course on Sunday.

The race doubles as a qualifier for the 2004 Athens Olympics, with Takahashi trying to secure one of the two remaining spots on Japan's team

Coach Yoshio Koide blamed her for ignoring his advice on dietary matters since arriving from their Colorado training camp.

"I take full responsibility but since we came to Japan she has been eating whatever she wants," he said.

For the two runners who made the team. Even though they proved themselves to be legitimate medal hopefuls, they will probably be demonized in the press since Q-chan didn't make the team.
This is turning out to be a terrible summer Olympics for Japan.
First Nagashima is out with a stroke, now Q-chan doesn't make the team, third, Yawara-chan(Ryoko Tamura) has fallen out of favor over her wedding. Oh the horror, nobody but real athletes to cheer for. :roll:
