China is such a bully. I'd love to see them get whipped by a joint U.S., Taiwan, Japan alliance. :x

Man, if Japan ever took even the slightest military action against China, China would crack open so much whip-ass we wouldn't even have time to pack our bags. If China wants Taiwan that's the end of the story. Taiwan should just resign itself to that fate. There's a historical precedent and ain't nobody seriously gonna fight China. They'd kick America's ass so bad it wouldn't even be funny. China could endure casualities. We'd give up so damn fast it wouldn't even be funny. As long as they don't invade New York, Moscow or London (ect) there's not gonna be any real fighting against China. If America was smart we'd buddy up to China while there's still time. Get the big boys together and do a little tag team Arab ass whippin'. That's what I say.

I want some of what he's on! :bounce:

You know what a 500 million man army means the the US military?
500 million little dots with crosshairs. :flame:

The Chinese army is a joke.

And their air force? One US Aegis cruiser can simultaeously track and engage an entire wing.
And we have a lot of cruisers. :violin:

If they didn't have balistic missles, we'd ignore them completely.

After spending 6 years in the US Army I can tell you you're vastly overestimating its capabilities. Any war with China would result in the reinstituting of the draft. You think the US is ready for that? After what Georgie went and did - and is continuing to do - in Iraq?

I'd say the best thing that Taiwan could do is lie low and wait...I feel that Mainland China is a very frustrated country, at the same time it is making real steps towards progress. But, don't hold your breath, it's still got a long way to go.

How well the Chinese military would fare against US forces would depend largely on the type of engagement. Certainly, China has give the US a bloody nose before, but that was on land and relatively near at hand.

A naval action would most probably be won by the Americans and decisively so. For a amphibious force to invade Taiwan, it would have to get there first without being sunk, and then establish a beachhead before any semblance of control could be achieved. Unless we are talking about undersea warfare, there is nowhere to hide at sea. If they can see you, they can shoot you.

Fighting a guerrilla war against regular armed forces in your own country, such as the ongoing fracas in Iraq is one thing - an all out naval battle would leave most of the PLAN lying on the bottom of the sea.

Even so, I very much doubt that either the US or China would let things go that far, hopefully neither country would be that stupid. As the post above mine suggests, the costs are far too high.

Here's a link on the PLAN for those who are interested.

Yes, rhetoric usually is.

Similar thoughts were held in this country also...look what happened.

I think this situation is different though.

I hope you're right, nagged. China is feeling pretty froggy.

China, U.S. Tit-For-Tat Trade Spat Grows
(Yahoo - Reuter). Beijing -- China denounced a move by the United States to cap selected textile imports on Wednesday and scrapped missions to buy American farm goods, saying the U.S. measure sullied the spirit of free trade.

Yeah like the US isn't into protectionism, economic bullying and self denial. As a native of a preferred trading partner country all I will say is that I would hate to try and trade with the US if we were not :?:

Wait, you mean people in the US don't pay as much for gas as the rest of the world? How can that be? ;)

BB, I think I know what you mean, you want justice in the world, but I've read a lot of your posts and I don't really believe you're the type to want to get WWIII started.

I wish we were that powerful but look at the facts. We couldn't defeat Vietnam. Somalia paraded a blackhawk pilot's corpse down the street while America recoiled in horror. The Taliban and especially Al-Qaeda have not been destroyed even two years after an attack on NYC that razed the WTC. Every few days another news story pops up about young American soldiers getting killed in Iraq and the situation is looking more and more like Vietnam part two.

Look. I'm proud to be American. I support the troops 100%. But talking shit about war on China? I went through this on another thread but it's just so shocking that anybody could be so disillusioned even after America has suffered from so many security and military failures.

If they didn't have balistic missles, we'd ignore them completely.
Well, they do. They have ICBM loaded with nuclear warheads. That means they could wipe out NY, LA London and all the rest with the push of a button. They'd never do it, you say. It'd be suicide! Well, let's not put it to the test, ok?

Assking,
No way do I propose to beginning WWIII. I doubt it will come to that. The chinese, as long as you leave them be, aren't out for world control. They just want to control their mainland, and the few islands around. Though what they did in Tibet was appalling.. but that was some time ago, with different players in the game back then.

I think some of you have forgotten how many nuclear weapons the US has, 5000 or so from what I gather. Imagine if they were all unleashed simultaneously. China couldn't pull the trigger fast enough to contain 5000 nukes.. it'd blow a hole in the earth that would rival a mega-meteor,

Of course it will hopefully never come to that. Hopefully China will adopt a more democratic government as the people become more educated, and experience freedoms and the benefits of self and equal rule. That will not happen over night and in fact will take years to occur because of the iron grip the communists have over China... but things have changed from the Cultural Revolution days.

Best thing we can do is try to open their minds through interaction, welcom them to our countries and show them that democracy is the future and that communism is dead... I think in fact that the Chinese government is no longer truly communistic (is that a word?)...

What scares me is their control over their people.. they kill whoever they like without a check or balance to the equation. They fear freedom, much like we feared communism back in the 50's... Freedom is spreading in China like an STD..

Speaking of which the AIDS crisis in China is reaching such epidemic proportions that perhaps their population might shrink down to jack crap by the time a war is necessary if ever.

There's no crisis. There's a potential crisis... but we saw with SARS what measures the Chinese govt will take once spurred into action (after the first three stages of denial, lie and more denial). Lock-em-all up would be a very effective way to deal with it, a method a brutal dictatorship not constrained by human rights issues would be free to implement.

With less than one percent of its population infected with H-I-V, China's infection rate is roughly what it was in South Africa in 1990. AIDS experts warn that if adequate measures are not taken now, China could go the way of South Africa, where the infection rate has soared to at least 25 percent, and has overwhelmed the government's ability to help AIDS patients.

I think like Vietnam it's currently a middle class disease, those with the money to shoot up high quality heroin with friends are the ones that get hit.
