1yen/$0.0094 crime bust!

Postby Taro Toporific » Tue Jan 13, 2004 2:57 pm

Image Stealing less than 1 cent of electricity is apparently still a crimeBy The Associated Press
(1/12/04 - TOKYO ) --
Stealing juice can be a costly endeavor in Japan.
Police have nabbed two Japanese men for siphoning off electricity in heists worth less than 1 cent each, an official said Sunday.
A 38-year-old man was caught red-handed by a patrolling police officer last September after unplugging a business' neon sign and using the electricity to recharge his mobile phone. . . Police said they could not let the incidents slide, even though the men are believed to have stolen $0.0094 worth of electricity.

That's petty theft if I've ever seen it.

Though not nearly as petty as the arrest.

I think it's a pretty good warning. I'll think twice about unplugging a neon sign to charge my mobile battery in future. :D

Better a stiff warning from the cops than a stiff reminder in prison.

Caustic, you prolly don't have to worry about that. Are the K-pigs that strict as well?

Not from what I've seen. The only run-in I've had with them was when I got pulled over for running a red light (intentionally).

The cop asked for my license and I showed him a US license and my alien card. He told me to get a Korean license then drove off. I guess they can't issue tickets without a local license. If that's the case, why would I want to get one? :D

Theft is Theft.

Postby Shinigami » Wed Jan 14, 2004 12:13 am

Hey theft is theft. What cha gonna do when they come for you. Got to do something.

Man can you imagine what would have happened if these perps were US Marines in Okinawa. Boy this would have been news all over the country. I can just see it now. Demonstrations demanding the criminals be handed over to the local authorities. Demonstrations demanding the removal of all US military bases in Okinawa. Everyone jumping up and down crying "victim victim victim"...... Pathetic. :puke:

Addendum: Just love the way that when the police do what they're paid to do they're called "pigs" and when they don't do what they're paid to do they're called "pigs"..... Guess you just can't win for losing.

Go figure.
You know it's the end of the world when the lights go out.
