World Cup is here (duh)

Postby cstaylor » Fri May 31, 2002 7:38 pm

Soccer brings the world to our doorstep
The World Cup finals bring the world to the doorstep of the host communities. The Japanese and South Korean people are being given a chance to experience the artistic play of first-class players and world-class soccer first hand, and to enjoy the unique styles played by each team.

And, does anyone see the humor in this description?
We would like to use this opportunity to remind FIFA's executives that they bear a heavy responsibility. Rampant backroom maneuvering has tainted the soccer business, and FIFA's president, who was recently reelected in a bitterly fought contest, has been accused of fiscal mismanagement by the organization's general secretary. FIFA's television rights agency has gone bankrupt, and there have been countless rumors regarding FIFA's handling of tickets. If FIFA does not make a clean break with its past management practices, it could be headed down a road leading to self-destruction

With a quick search-and-replace:
We would like to use this opportunity to remind LDP bigwigs that they bear a heavy responsibility. Rampant backroom maneuvering has tainted the Japanese government, and the Prime Minister, who was recently reelected in a bitterly fought contest, has been accused of fiscal mismanagement by the opposition parties. Japan's road-building boondoggle has forced the country into bankruptcy, and there have been countless rumors regarding Japan's handling of tax money. If Japan does not make a clean break with its past management practices, it could be headed down a road leading to self-destruction
