Image Seoul celebrates return of 'king'
THE WASHINGTON TIMES / May 14
SEOUL --
''I don't care about that anymore," said the elderly Korean man in a nearly inaudible voice after being asked about the role of the United States in deposing his family....
....Mr. Yi's father, Yi Un, was married to Japan's Princess Masako in 1920. The couple had children, and the Yi royal line continued in Japan. ....A quiet man with a pale, somewhat sad face, he lives in a small apartment in Tokyo, on a stipend supplied by the Yi Family Association. Why is he in Seoul? "I come back four times a year [for ceremonial purposes]...Mr. Yi has lived in the United States and was married to an American, Julia Mullock -- Princess Julia --; but the couple divorced in 1982. He speaks little Korean...

The Last Joseon

Postby Taro Toporific » Thu Jul 21, 2005 11:59 am

The charming folks of Kyodo Press posted just this about the "Last Joseon."

Son of last Joseon Dynasty crown prince dies in Japan
SEOUL, July 19 KYODO
Lee Ku, the only son of the last crown prince of Korea's Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), was found dead in a Japanese hotel Saturday, the Jeonju Lee Royal Family Members Foundation said Tuesday, according to Yonhap News Agency. He was 74.
The foundation said Lee, honorary chairman of the foundation, was believed to have died of heart failure, but an exact cause of his death or other details surrounding his death have not been made known.

Some of the rest-of-the-story can be found here in the Korean Times reportbut even they gloss over the fact that the Last Joseon was born in Japan, existed as a Japanese colonial puppet or that he was forced to divorce his wife of more than 20 years.

The Korean surname Lee is also translated as Rhee, Yi, and Yee. G's and K's are often used to represtent the same sound depending on which system of romanization is used. Basically, Korean doesn't have a national standard for transliteration so you'll get different sources using different systems.

Sure. But it'd be nice if news services would pick one name for the cat and go with it.
