GOES AGAINST THE GRAIN: North Korea eyed tasty Japanese riceThe Asahi Shimbun May 29
News flash: North Korea thinks domestic Japanese rice is oishii-so much so, in fact, that Pyongyang wanted Tokyo to provide 50 billion yen's worth...North Korea... demanding rice-the Japanese variety.
'It is because Japanese rice is so delicious,'' an official quoted his Pyongyang counterpart as saying.
Officials refused because the U.N. World Food Program, which would dole out the aid, distributes a variety of grains from donor nations.
