i can definitely concur that most E-4 (corporals) and below live on base, (maybe even 95%). even the ones that are married and gets shipped oversea ON MOST CASES have to pay for their wive's/families ticket to japan. the only way the younger jarheads can live off base is to marry a local j-chick, and the CO's (commanding officers) will do their damndest to pursuead (sp?) the them not to. (something to the effects of: "son, you don't wanna marry no jap. you see all the mama-sans at the bars, you see all the grass ninja cutting grass? if you marry one of them, that how you woman is going to turn out. just wait 'til you get back stateside and then get married...")canman1 wrote:Do most of the young guys live on base? I thought lot of people were also housed off base, what happens with them. Also I wonder what the penalty will be if they are caught of base. Just wondering. The mentioned the E5 thing, but does that only apply to young marines.
Kamome, up here in Aomori, I have heard a few people calling for the same thing. In the past month two people were hit by drunk military drivers. One was killed the other seriously hurt. They may demand similar action now.
