CEO Eiko Harada munches a McGrand
Image
Fighting a slump, McDonald's Japan comes up with a new product: a hamburger
Thursday June 3, 7:25 PM
...The McGrand, priced at 315 yen (US$2.84) for a single patty and 399 yen (US$3.61) for a double, features a larger 80 gram (2.8 ounces) beef patty, lettuce and melting cheese in specially developed chewy buns.
But McDonald's is promoting the McGrand as marking a return to its essential business _ and the new product fits the bill. Despite the new bun, the McGrand tastes similar to McDonald's other burgers.

McDonald's and Sony to offer free music
Oak Brook, IL, Jun. 3 (UPI)... customers who buy a Big Mac extra value meal, which includes French fries and a drink along with a hamburger, an access code for one free song download at electronics group Sony's Connect music store starting June 8 in the United States. The offer will last for six to 10 weeks, and the company will be expanding the deal to Europe later on.
There is, however, no plan as of yet to expand the program into the Japanese market.

"chewy" GAG burger

Oh well, McDonald's Japan's limited time products can't all be this bizarre... Fish McNuggets with wasabi sauce, anyone?

really who needs 64 ounces of cola at one sitting? I used to supersize the shit out of everything (mo value mentality)... I went back home last year, and could barely drink the large size.. while my brother was sloshing through his second "free refill" of the supersize drink... I almost shat myself when I thought about it.

America needs to take heed of the quality before quantity mantra. I'd rather have one kickass delicious cheeseburger than 3 crappy ass McRoadkill cheeseburgers...

Like take Hardees for example. (HARDEES WEBSITE) They used to serve shitty burgers that tasted like a fossilized tampon... Now they are serving up pure angus beef steak burgers. Sure you pay about $6 for a burger but it tastes good.

Here's the test of tests. Order a plain burger with just the meat and the bun. If you can eat that and it tastes good, then the place is on par. Try that at McDonald's and you'd choke to death. Their patties are sickening.. Just look at them. They beef looks like it's been hit by a million meteorites.. got holes all over it. It's grey, most beef I ever eat is usually blackened or redish pink.. there's is grey throughout.. (not sure if it's food coloring or some "special" ingredient.

The fries at McDonald's are really tasty, but they are the most unhealthy item on the whole farking menu.. worse than the Double quater pounder with cheese, mayo, bacon.. because they use hydrogenated vegie oil. Why can't they use Canola oil? It's much better for you.. Then they shake the salt.. my god you'd think it was a salt lick for deer or something.

I've actually gotten fries that I had to shake the salt off of...

I want to see that Supersize me movie, but I doubt the validity of the findings simply because I know of no one who eats McDonalds every day??

And can anyone tell me about this Low Carb horseshit? My grandmother calls me up the other day and says she's on the "Low Carb" diet.. that she feels like shit, her energy is drained, (she said the book said not having energy is normal) because she's following this new diet/fad... She's 63. I told her to consult her doctor before going on any diet... she also tells me that you are only supposed to be on the diet for 1-2 weeks at a time??? What the hell?

I think it's a load of manure.. Someone told me that they are offering hamburgers without the bun.. a hamburger without the bun is a fucking pile of meat, not a hamburger. My grandmother told me she can't eat corn, rice, bread, pasta, but she can eat steak, bacon, eggs, cheese....

Piss on that!

Man, you leave home for awhile and Americans lose their marbles. Last time I went back everyone was into this Atkins shit. They're like, 'You just eat meat all the time' whole sections in supermarkets are devoted to it. Decent bakeries have gone out of business. It's everywhere. I was trying to tell my family members this is the stupidest dietary fad in the history of America (and that's really saying something). Carbs, like from bread and rice are the staples of almost every society in the world's diet. There's a biological reason for that. Seriously, it still amazes me how stupid my countrymen are. Everyone's a lard ass and now they're eating, like BB says, burgers with no fucking buns! And it's happening all over America. I'm sitting there telling my family back in the states, 'If you want to lose weight and feel healthy and be healthy eat well balanced meals and just not so much of it and get some exercise. Burn more calories than you take in and you'll lose weight.' But over there everyone has got Atkins low carb mania. Obvious truths be damned. Six slices of bacon for breakfast! I don't keep a healthy diet myself but at least I understand what one is. It's just common sense for Christ's sake. BB, you ought to call your Grandma back and try to talk some sense in her. No corn rice bread or pasta? That's terrible. If she does that for too long it could shave years off her life. I don't mean to be callous about your kin, I'm totally serious. Like you say,

Piss on that.

Yeah, I went back to the States about six months ago and the menu at every restaurant had "low carb" options and color coding for people on that Atkins diet. My Mom also follows those fad diets and I just laugh. Americans don't want to diet the right way--healthy eating combined with exercise--they just want a quick fix.

Remember Fen-Phen, anyone? That diet drug led to heart valve problems and eventually spawned a cottage industry of class-action lawsuits against the manufacturer.

I know! What's wrong with exercise?.. I never understood that.. They claim they don't have time but watch 4 hours of TV a day..

I saw something interesting on Nightline yesterday; Obesity and the poor. About how low-income neighborhoods generally don't have stores with fresh produce. They have liquor, fast-food, and convenience stores.

One guy had to take two busses in order to purchase tomatoes.. And usually, healthy food is more expensive than junk food; thanks, in large part, to government subsidies.

The fault lies mostly with the individual, but there are other factors that contribute, IMO.

Its control issues. That's all. People control what *type* of food they eat on this diet, but do not sacrifice taste or size. Its the miracle diet every fat kid and neurotic girl (or guy) dreams about. It's utter bullshit, but that's why it's popular.

So Mickey-D's dropped the Super-size...someone had better inform the stores in Oklahoma then, cuase we still got it! 8O

Chewy buns...I was a bit tired of either grease soaked white-goo or falling apart dry crusts, so maybe this will be different. (though I doubt it)

Atkins...I saw an article somewhere about a doctor who got in trouble for getting his coroners report illegally, and it cast doubt on this diet of his (can't find it though, so ignore at will). But I think American's do have a carbohydrate problem. Potato Chips (and mashed ptoatoes and french fries and...), bleached flour, and sugar snacks are substitutes for healthy foods too often. Cutting out these will probly do as much good (and likely less damage) than cutting out carbs completely.

And "the south beach" diet.. now I don't know about you, but this sounds more like a tropical club that a diet LOL

I just couldn't imagine going on "the south beach diet" LMAO....

Doc: "So what diet you on"
Me: "well I was on the Northern Port Diet for winter, but I've switched to the South Beach Diet for summer"

Don't they still use beef fat in Japan for the fries in McDonalds which does make them taste better?

A balanced diet must mean weighing up against two freak'n people in the mind of some people. Enjoy it all in moderation.

Damn, a new McDonald's just opened up near my office. It's their second attempt in that space, too. I have limited enough lunch options as it is, why throw a friggin' McDonald's in there when they could have other more nutritious franchises occupying that space. :x

As has been said - moderation is the key. There is no quick fix. But there are slight things you can do to help with the process - I'm not on a "diet" as such but I do put a couple of drops of nigari on my food as a salt substitute - it's supposed to have lots of magnesium in it and help prevent colon cancer, as well as making you lose weight. Big thing in Japan right now.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the occasional burger and fries (especially Mosburger - yum!)

The Atkins diet I just don't get. How is it possible that 6 pieces of bacon can be better for you than a slice of wholewheat bread and a boiled egg?

I have a friend who has just started the South Beach Diet. She asked me to check it out for her and give my opinion on it. As far as I can see it's based on moderation and learning to eat healthier. The first 2 weeks are carb-free - apparently to break you out of the cycle of relying on them, but you gradually bring them back. The focus is on enjoying food - not only that they provide a stack of recipes (I tried one it was quite good). The most important thing about this diet though is the online support and community. A place where you can get encouragement, motivation and support without needing to drive you friends nuts about talking about the latest diet you are on.

I'm not a dieter myself. I try and eat healthy food and don't beat myself up if I have baddy food sometimes.

However chewy buns hold little interest for me...
