TV Asahi to pay settlement, air apology over dioxin report

TV Asahi, a Tokyo-based network broadcaster, will pay 10 million yen and air an apology for a 1999 report on dioxin contamination that farmers in Saitama Prefecture said triggered a plunge in vegetable sales...

Could be wrong about this but, I believe they reported a figure given to them by the enviromental agency which only reflected the contamination level in one area. Or something like that.
I heard on the news that the farmers complained their crop prices went down by 50% because of it.
I personally feel they should not have been selling contaminated crops at all and that Asahi TV should be praised for bringing this to the attention of the consumer. Nobody else was reporting it at all.
