Illegal foreign labor worries Japanese
More than 70 percent of Japanese are worried that an increase in the number of illegally employed foreign workers could undermine public safety and result in human rights abuses against the workers themselves, according to a government survey released Saturday.
I'm always interested to see people concerned about the rise of foreign criminal gangs. An underlying assumption often appears to be that Japanese gangs are OK, or more charitably, inevitable. Foreign gangs can only prosper because Japanese gangs have been tolerated. This means means they walk straight into lucrative businesses without having to set them up from scratch.
