These ones that come straight for us are usually the bad ones. :o

But they are usually nothing compared to the tropical cyclones that I grew up with in Queensland.

Did this typhoon blow thru yet? I am getting on a plane in Korea to fly back to Japan in an hour.
Probably be a bumpy ride. Hope I don't have to use the barf bag for the first time.

If I wasn't so freaking tired, I would have already hopped on the first train south, equipment in hand (camera, etc you sick pervs) to wherever that thing is expected to hit hardest.

Speaking of, if there are any other slightly more 'dangerous' photo-op's, then would someone mind keeping me informed wit them?

How about sitting in the middle of the hillside during the Onbashasai festival. But I guess you have already missed that chance.

I was reading this thread with the usual detachment of an overseas FG until a quick downpour reminded me that I was in back in Tokyo. Please tell me this is going to blow right through and Fuji Rock will be sun and smiles.

Enjoy the (theoretical) mud at Fuji. Here in Shizuoka it's partly cloudy and very humid, though the weather forecast yesterday predicted heavy rain from last night. Damn those unreliable Japanese forecasters! It's like everytime a typhoon appears anywhere near Japan, everyone at the weather service wets their bed and predicts that it's "heading straight for Tokyo!" Then when it inevitably slows down and goes in some other direction, they quickly change their report to "heavy rain tomorrow", which quickly turns to "partly cloudy with chance of showers the day after tomorrow"...which then turns to "just look outside before you leave your house and take your best guess"...Ah, haven't had a good rant in a long time, but geez, weather forecasters suck here...

COWBUNGA! Surf's up! Six to eight meter waves will be breaking at noon today from Shonan to Izu.
I am pumped! I can drive all night six hours in the middle of a Typhoon Namtheum...and drive over the Seto Ohashi Bridge, (world's longest bridge) at the peak of blow. FUN/foon!
