I highly doubt that any so-called primitive men, related to today's Japanese mixed race of Korean, Chinese, and Malay people, existed in Japan before 600 B.C. Any tools created before that time were most likely those of the Ainu people.

I have a theory that the Ainu were the inspiration behind the Oni and Tengu mythologies, especially the myth of Momotaro, who, representing the invading horde of Korean undesirables, wiped out the native peoples of Japan.
