Japan Tobacco Wants Fewer of Nation's Farmers to Grow CropAug. 4 (Bloomberg) --Japan Tobacco Inc., the world's third- biggest cigarette maker, is asking half of the country's almost 19,000 tobacco farmers to stop growing the crop because Japanese are smoking less.
The company's domestic sales may decline 4 percent to 210 billion cigarettes this year from 218.3 billion last year, according to spokeswoman Yukiko Seto.
Japan Tobacco is required by law to purchase all domestically grown tobacco leaf.

After about 15 years of solid half-pack-a-day Dunhill smoking, I'm basically a part time smoker now. So the other day I got nostalgic and bought a pack of the ol' JT tobacco, in the form of Mild Seven. Ah, natsukashii... Of course the experience would have been better at JT price of 220yen (or whatever it is now) instead of the $6.50 they hit me up for the damn things in San Francisco!
