Oh Brother! Man leaves sibling's rotting body in apartment for 1 year

SAGAMIHARA, Kanagawa -- A man who left his dead brother's body in their home to rot while he chose to live out of his car has been arrested, police said.

Keisuke Yumiba, 27, a part-timer of no fixed address, was arrested for illegal disposal of the body of his 29-year-old brother, Kenichi.

An autopsy has revealed Kenichi Yumiba had been dead for about one year. There were no signs of external injury on his corpse.

Police did not disclose whether the autopsy had revealed the cause of Yumiba's death.

Police said the Yumiba siblings had shared a home in Sagamihara and that they had been searching for the younger brother for some time after residents of the housing estate where their apartment was located had complained of a vile smell and an inspection uncovered Kenichi Yumiba's corpse.

I remember several similar cases when I lived in Japan, though usually it was just a case that no one bothered to check on their relative/friend/neighbor/whatever. This guy simply moving into the car instead is a nice twist!

There was one of these 1-year old dead body discovered cases near my place in Okurayama (near shin-yokohama, but on the toyoko-sen). A few months later I noticed the apartment had a for rent sign! I bet it took a while to rent that one. They probably would have even taken a fucked-gaijin as tenant.
