Scooters with an engine displacement of more than 250cc have become increasingly popular recently. The machines, which do not have clutch levers, are easy to handle, and their relatively large underseat storage space...At a time when the number of people applying for motorcycle licenses is falling, the motorcycle industry has high hopes for large scooters. Manufacturers, who expect that more people will get motorcycle licenses if a license for automatic machines is introduced, are likely to further boost their production and introduce new models of large scooters.

And the girls love to ride on the back of them.

They sit high so they can loook over the drivers head andthe wide seats are comfy.

Some time next year we will be able to drive 2 people on the highways so they will become more popular.
I reccomend buying a used now and selling a year later when demand is high -- probably get same price you bought it for or more.

I got my motorcycle license on an old school Honda Helix three weeks before I came back to Japan. Damn fun to ride. Too bad the ole international permit doesn't work in Japan anymore, or I'd have my hands on one right now (or better yet, one of those new Fusions)...
