Visas for unskilled workers mulled
IHT/Asahi: September 30, 2004
An advisory panel to Foreign Minister Nobutaka Machimura will recommend the government ease its rules to allow unskilled foreign workers to fill an expected critical labor shortage...
.... The measures include relaxing some visa requirements and extending the maximum period of stay from three to five years. The panel also will suggest that conditions for permanent resident status be eased and made more transparent....
