Japanese lawmakers make group visit to controversial war shrine
Seventy-nine Japanese lawmakers including opposition members made a pilgrimage to a controversial war shrine, where past visits by Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi have infuriated China and South Korea.

The lawmakers paid respects at the Yasukuni shrine in Tokyo for an annual fall festival. The shrine honors 2.5 million Japanese fallen in modern wars including convicted war criminals such as World War II-era leader general Hideki Tojo.

Is this a militaristic stance?

I think they dont know how irrational the Chinese really are.
this could become something big!

I, for one, am just going to laugh...
because regardless of stance they are both looking stupid.

A little background can be found in this AP story...
A war shrine bares deep divide over past militarism
Several times each year, Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo is awash in Japan's rightist fringe. Toughs shout diatribes against China or Japanese leftists; militarists strut around in wartime uniforms, brandishing rifles with bayonets.

The spectacle might be dismissed as theater for marginalized extremists, but at least once a year the crowd includes visitors from Japan's center of power Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and members of his Cabinet.

The shrine honors the 2.4 million Japanese who have died in uniform, and Koizumi, the first postwar prime minister to make annual official visits, argues it's only natural for a leader of the country to pay homage to the fallen.
