Golden Gai

I LOVE golden gai - but it is best to have an experienced hand show you around for the first time... each bar has it's own sub-culture and it is the kind of place where everybody knows everybody.

Unfortunately you will probably not receive a warm welcome if you just drop in.. having said that, when people have met you once, you will be welcomed back with open arms and your bottle will be behind the bar untouched since your last visit. I ofen drop into my faves by myself in the wee hours after I have been out somewhere else and all my companions have crawled off home - I am somewhat of a night owl. But I can always be assured of a loud and genuine welcome and a fun time until way after the sun is up.

I regularly visit about 3-4 bars but I wouldn't dream of dropping into a bar where I haven't been taken to previously by a regular.

Metropolis did a feature on Golden Gai last year. Still haven't made my way over there, for the reasons Gomi Girl mentioned. None of my friends have connections at the bars there. But it does sound like a cool place.

How 'bout I organise a pub crawl??? Tour Group? I would carry a flag and a loud speaker so people don't get lost. (liberally laced with sarcasm)

Actually I don't think that I would be very popular - most of these bars only fit 5-6 people at a time. I would shunned by the owners...

But if you ever meet me IRL and I am heading that way - I will be sure'n drag you along.... I'm just that kinda gal.
