Tokyo Stock Exchang to delist Apple Computer on Dec 25

Postby Steve Bildermann » Thu Nov 18, 2004 5:06 am

Apple Computer Inc (NASDAQ: AAPL - news) said it has applied to the Tokyo Stock Exchange to delist from the exchange's foreign section.
Separately, the bourse said it has accepted the application from the US maker of PCs, and will place its shares on the watch list in preparation for delisting on December 25.
Apple Computer cited low trading volume in its shares as the reason for the decision.

No foreign company should be listed on Japan if they already have a listing overseas. It is ridiculously expensive and no-one buys shares in Tokyo anyway if they really want to invest.
Most firms listed on the TSE during the bubble on the assumption that they could issue stock in Japan to those wacky Japanese who liked to pay crazy prices. They never did, the bubble burst and a TSE listing became just a vanity exercise. Except no-one cared.

It's good to hear they stopped their TSE listing---at least somebody is thinking straight. Apple Japan has been in constant flux since day one here. Apple's mismanagement in Japan is famous. Their piss-poor R&D efforts for the Japanese marketplace, and efforts to run Apple Japan "as a US company" almost ruined the Macintosh in Japan in the late 80s (Mrs T worked in Japan directors' office then).

Apple Japan had 15 directors in their first 10 years.
