Woods critical of PGA for not selecting O'Meara as Ryder Cup ...
WTNH, November 17, 2004
MIYAZAKI, Japan ---
Tiger Woods is criticizing the P-G-A of America for selecting Tom Lehman as captain of the 2006 Ryder Cup team instead of close friend Mark O'Meara.
Woods says O'Mear should have been picked because of his heritage. The next Ryder Cup matches will be played in Ireland and O'Meara is of Irish descent. ...
[Europeans have won four of the past five matches and seven of the past 10, so Lehman will have real job on his hands. ]

Hi Taro,

You will find most Americans claim to be of Irish descent, which can usually (in my experience) can be quite spurious.

I dunno what the attraction is - All we do is drink and fight, a bit like a green ninja who is drunk all the time...and has no particular fighting ability... :P

 I dont think many people in Ireland would give a toss one way or the other..
When the MTV European music awards were held in Dublin a few years back Puffy and Christina Aguilera were claiming to be of Irish descent - but I dont think it phased many people

..that said "O' Meara" is obviously a very Irish name

The bane of my boyhood in Chicago was Saint Pat's Day--- a citywide fest but less than 15% of the people in Chicago are Irish. I was grumbling about this to a black bus driver as we were stuck in a 40 minute parade delay. He chided me:
"Sheee-it Pollack, I'm mo' Irish than you, an' the day is drunks...everybody."

That's because the Irish came to America and mated like rabbits :D with anything anything and everything. So chances are they probably do derive their roots from the potato country.
