From Nestle Japan - Uji Maccha Kit Kats. Available for a limited period only. Unless they sell well, in which case you'll be able to get them whenever you want.

I bought some of these to Korea to give to a friend. Not because I thought they'd be good, but because the last limited flavor:

(this summer's Lemon Cheesecake)

is finally no longer availablle.

Pity, since those were the best damned Kit-Kats ever!

The Green Tea flavor was well-liked, but it's no Lemon Cheesecake.

Meh, Green tea Kit Kats are nothing next to their ice cream cousins.

Make Durian flavored Kit Kats, then we can talk. It's almost like the Famous Amos cookies - only more powerful, tastier and compelling enough for everyone to try again and again and again...

Relax...seeing how my tastes seem to run counter to most here, I'd say these green bean-like things are gonna be a hit. I thought they were atrocious. They didn't even taste like macha, let alone macha-flavored ice cream. :puke:

Donki...the land where odd products go to die

Postby Kuang_Grade » Mon Nov 29, 2004 4:36 am

Personally, I thought the lemon cheesecake ones were a bit odd...and possibly a business failure since a single two stick package was more than enough for me...I found them too sweet tasting. For those lamenting their demise, I found of "family sized" bag (18-20 two stick packs in a single bag) of these at Donki (either in Akihabara or one of the Shinjuku stores) in mid October. Family sized/multi packs tend to float around in retail channels a bit longer than single packs, although they are carried at far fewer outlets than single packs (places like Donki and grocery stores)

And it seems that you folks are not alone in your enjoyment of this kit kat.....this one sold for $10 on Ebay...I'm going to have to add kit kat subculture to by my ebay speculation research list.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=43401&item=4335727050&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Although it looks like another FG has already started on this green tea flavoured market. They got 8.25 plus ($5 shipping) for it.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=38174&item=4339560669&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

While I haven't read it myself, some of you may find this book of interest

Candyfreak: A Journey Through the Chocolate Underbelly of America
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1565124219/qid=1101667489/sr=2-1/ref=pd_ka_b_2_1/103-6342172-8435819

The author goes through his candy obsession in general and talks about his on going search for Kit Kat Darks (dark chocolate kit kats).

Here's his website as well
http://www.stevenalmond.com/

In my poking around Ebay I also found this listing for
a Cantelope Melon flavored kit kat (although I have no idea how old it is). Judging by the markings, it looks like it has some Hokkaido angle.

You may be on to something. I've just been asked to ship 200 bars across to the UK for a firm's Christmas party.

passionfruit kit kat

Postby vir-jin » Mon Jan 24, 2005 4:10 pm

just to let you know what I tasted 5 minutes ago-

passionfruit kitkat, sour and very delicious- because 'Le patissier TAKAGI' took a hand on it. No cheap jam inside as I expected but cream. Unfortunately, it's quite expensive (135) ! :(

I just picked up a green tea kit kat. Not bad. Though I don't really get that green tea flavor all that much. But I think that is true of green tea ice cream as well.

Yes, our Capt. Japan is a genius and writes articles about the Japan that most people don't ever get to see.

Btw, I love macha flavored anything. Are the Kit Kats that far off from macha ice?

Uji Macha Kit Kats are great. I eat one almost everyday! And go to Uji every weekend!
I heard they were only released in Kansai. Can anyone from Kanto tell me if they are selling there.

Student's pun makes KitKats the perfect charm
Asahi
The familiar KitKat chocolate bar was invented in Britain's Yorkshire in 1935. During World War II, the government of Winston Churchill recommended the bar's consumption, saying that it was ``a cheap and healthy source of nourishment'' and that a bite of a KitKat would enable a soldier to march for two hours.

The government's endorsement helped make KitKats the national snack for Britons.

While Margaret Thatcher was prime minister in the 1980s, the Swiss company Nestle staged a hostile takeover of the company making KitKats. With opponents taking to the streets to ``protect the taste of Britain,'' what was known as the chocolate war broke out.

The current government of Tony Blair no longer gives its blessing to KitKat bars in line with anti-obesity programs.

Out of the news for years, the chocolate bar came back as something of a hot topic in Britain this month, following reports by British newspapers and the BBC that Japanese students are snapping up the traditional British chocolate bar as a lucky charm....the rest...

So I just finished eating one of the new 'White' kit-kats that I picked up from AM/PM & thought to myself... this is identicle to the green-tea kit kats...

Mind if I ask this onne simple question... Why on earth would they issue two types of chocolate bars which are so close in terms of taste, flavor and texture!??

From the J Kit-Kat site, http://www.breaktown.com

Image

Actually, the site (flash infested) is interesting to a degree....A sakura tree section where people post their wishes for to do well on tests/stay friends forever, ect...various media tie ins (there's a CD single/Kit Kat bar combo product due in a few weeks)
Image

While there are a few scenes of J student life, it seems that breaktown is actually infested with young school age-ish FGs who are spokespersons for the Kit Kat lifestyle or something. Image From left to right their names/hobbies are JJ (biker), Eri (border), Maya(dancer),and my favorite, geta wearing Riki (DJ)

They're present in a few sections of the site and are in quite a few flash based games, most of which seem to be typing based and mostly typing English words...Some which make more sense than others....

Nestle Japan is now asking people to vote for their favourite limited edition Kit Kat. 20 flavours are up on their website and the winner will be back on sale. Funny that. I suspected Nestle wouldn't be able to resist selling them again despite their "limited edition" label. I predict Nestle will announce a winner and then say the votes were so close, they've decided to bring back more than one flavour.
