Sure, and based on that logic why not show autopsy photos in science class - hey, biology's just as good a lesson to learn.

Methods of Torture
Water Torture
Ants in the pants
Electric shocks to the genitals
Pins under fingernails
Isolation
Extreme heat and cold
Digit removal
Cigarette burns to the eye
Piercing noises for prolonged time spans
Constant exposure to bright light
Water and food deprivation
Hammers to kneecaps
Limiting oxygen intake
Repeated rapings
Sleep deprivation
Extreme stretching
Tied up in uncomfortable positions
Skinning alive
Boiling alive
Forced cannabalism
Forced incest
Castration
General vivisection

Any more ideas? I'll make flash cards and we can play matching games and variations on Go Fish and so on. Also charades could be a lot of fun. Simon sez. It's endless really.

I'm just glad to see that the US isn't the only place where people bring frivilous lawsuits. Thankfully the judge had the sense to throw that one out.

You're almost right. The US is the only place where people bring frivilous lawsuits and win!

Yes. It's called J-U-S-T-I-C-E...recourse the Japanese don't have.

The lack of legal council in Japan assures that the weak remain oppressed. Just think about the number of times people in Japan get ripped off and just do nothing: Shoganaiis the true national anthem.

Everytime I go to see the sack-suckers in Immigration, I've learned the stress-relieving technique of saying shoganai 10 times. In the Real World, I would have had those natto-suckers paying out for handicapped discrimation suit for my past 20 years here and still no permanent visa.

Taro,

That's all well and good. But you have to admit, that suit was gay.

Ummm, no it's not...

MDN wrote:An obese youth who sprained his ankle while doing weight loss exercises has successfully sued a Nara hospital for ordering him to do them.

The state, which runs the Nishinara National Hospital where the 13-year-old took part in a weight control program, was ordered to pay 200,000 yen in damages Thursday.

"For an obese boy like him it was hard enough to skip rope in a normal fashion. So it is not difficult to imagine him injuring himself if forced to do it on one leg, as ordered by a hospital fitness coach," Presiding Judge Shoji Higuchi said at the Nara District Court. "The fitness coach should have given the boy more instruction on how to do the exercise as he is not really good at skipping rope."

But I would expect doctors to know that low-impact exercises are more commonly used for extremely obese patients.. Because jogging, or (shock!) jumping rope, are high-impact and can cause knee, ankle, or foot injuries... I would assume it to be basic physics.

Typical ignorance and 'one size fits all because we're Japanese' mentality, if you ask me.. The doctor should pay because he is trained and paid to know more than the common non-sensei.

& UR point is?

Postby Lifer » Thu Dec 02, 2004 1:02 pm

Y'all kinda missed the point there. I wasn't saying the judge's decision was wrong, I was saying I didn't agree with the wording.
"It was possible that an undesirable impact on education could have resulted"

He couldn't have said something about inappropriate content or something? (As opposed to difficult content)

I certainly don't condone scaring the shit out of kids
I mean, if it was a violent depiction then I could understand

except for a certain lot that it may do some good, but...
No matter how he tried he could not break free.

Obviously without the original Japanese we have to guess what was actually said based on the stilted translation. My understanding of what the judge said was that he did not object to a teacher posting actual facts or photos, but that the material posted should suit the intended students.

I took him to say that while the photos may have been factually true, the primary school students wouldn't have understood them and this would have had a negative impact on their education. Now this negative impact could come in the form of hating Americans, hating the SDF, thinking all foreigners are violent, etc.

So in my mind the judge implied that the poster was inappropriate because it wasn't suited to the students' level of understanding...
