Couldn't the time and location when the cell phone was used to send the picture be traced? I mean, if the 'authorities' wanted, couldn't they contact the cell company and have them track that particular phone by monitoring the transmissions of all keitai towers in the general area?..cstaylor wrote:He used the girl's own cellphone, which the police have yet to locate.
I vaguely remember a similar issue coming up in the Lucie Blackman case. Key circumstantial evidence in the case is Obara's phone record - not the numbers he called but where he was when he called. Privacy laws dictated that only Obara could ask for that information. I believe it was Tony Blair's personal intervention that allowed the release of the data and it subsequent use in the prosecution.GuyJean wrote:Couldn't the time and location when the cell phone was used to send the picture be traced?...I had to 'request' that. Mulboyne wrote: in the case above, it was the girl's cellphone and since it was used in a criminal act, I would think the police have no problem getting the records but, sadly, that doesn't necessarily lead them to the killer.
I was using my phone records as an example; I was more thinking that the phone company could monitor it's transmissions now; on alert for the girl's keitai number.. 'Monitor tracking', or something.. Is this not possible? If it isn't, it should be..Mulboyne wrote: I would think the police have no problem getting the records but, sadly, that doesn't necessarily lead them to the killer.
Kaede's cell phone which the killer used to send the email and the cruel picture was serviced by KDDI, one of the major Japanese telephone carriers, with a GPS system. The GPS system can trace the telephone signal and identify the location of its origin within a diameter of five meters. Until Kaede's mother's cell phone received the email, police had not requested KDDI to be alert to any calls from Kaede's cell phone, so they were unable to start tracing the email. However, further investigation into Kaede's cell phone records has found that the call was made from within a 100-meter diameter of the area.
The attached photo of Kaede's dead body was not necessarily clear enough but police could discern that Kaede's body was lying on a white towel with certain patterns and her head was placed on a dark blue- or gray-color cushion.
The Police investigation has found a suspect but has had difficulty in getting him to come in voluntarily due to his expected abnormal mental condition at the time of the killing. In any event, the police investigation is coming to its final stages.

Remember the last time a fucked up killer who turned out to be a young boy, chopped another kids head off and stuck it on the school gate. At the time the xenophobic Nippon cops spent their time trying to catch the gaijin serial killer, in the end it turned out to be a young Japanese male.

The alleged murderer of a 7-year-old girl in Nara in western Japan has sent an email message to her mother saying his next target is the girl's 2-year-old sister, police sources said Tuesday.
The police believe that the murderer used the victim's mobile phone, possibly (fucking 'possibly'!!???) from around the town of Kawai, Nara Prefecture, to send the message to her 28-year-old mother early Tuesday, the sources said.
The police announced early Wednesday that the mother received the message. But they declined to release details, saying the girl's parents were deeply shocked by the threatening message..
The police believe that the caller still has the girl's mobile phone, the sources said, adding the police are speeding up to check the communications record.
The latest email message showed the victim's email address in her mobile phone, the police said.
