Bike Club in Tokyo?

Postby kingdom » Tue Sep 20, 2005 11:15 pm

I am trying to find a club where I can join and even participate in races in Tokyo.

Does anyone know of a gaijin based club? my Japanese is not very good so that is why I am after a club that has a few English speaking members.

Any info would be appreaciated!

Join the bousouzoku! :D

There are bike races down in Hiratsuka that I used to check out sometimes - they actually bet on the races(legally)! You cant miss the big stadium near Olympic City (if its still there!)

I am sure they will have a few poeple down that way into racing as there are nice paths along the beach from Enoshima down past Hiratsuka. The bridge into hiratsuka, i wouldnt touch with a mama-chari mind you....

Outdoor Japan - Cycling

A quick squizz on the site showed a racing calendar.

Outdoor Japan http://www.outdoorjapan.com is a fantastic site for anything outdoors - skiing, hiking etc etc. I joined a ski trip last year with a ski-club and had a fantastic time and met some lovely people. Most of the groups are just social clubs in different interests - cycling, hiking, skiing etc.

It is a great resource - I use this site a heap.

Ahh mountain biking! I recommend taking some trips to the Hakone area and all the way down to the Izumi.

There are heaps of people around the Yokohama beach areas, as there are quite a few good tracks for biking down there.

I used to do it myself as well, when living in Japan.

We used to go to races at this course in Kanagawa near Yokohama somewhere. On the same block of land as the racing course it had an obstacle course for this Japanese TV game. The TV games challange was you had to do an obstacle course and whoever got the fastest time (or even finished!) won! It was something like Kiniku Challange - A stunt guy called Ken was the fastest at it (someone who used to be famous). the last part of the game was you had to climb all the way up a rope to the top of the tower. - That should be enough information about a famous place to some people, so they can tell you were that is EXACLTY. I was only 15 or so at the time. There were heaps of gaijins there all the time.

Pro bike racers IN TOKYO take their bikes to work on the train in bike bags as do bike tourists. Hell, surfers take surf boards on the Tokaido Sen commuter train all the fricking time.

Pro bicycle racing. RACING BICYCLES. Sheesh.
The Japanese custom/rule is you have to take the front wheel off and use one of these type of bags on trains. Everyday at Tokyo station you can see these bike bags being used as pro racers and tourists head off to their destinations.

You can get away without a bag if you are stuck, but in most cases they wont let you past the gate.

Anyway, the bike parking inspectors still need their job right?
