From the Australia Society website:

Wait until you get everyone's money collected before you tell them that because of the Quarantine for Equine Influenza, there will only be one horse in the race and that'll be an Alice Springs gelding with only three legs!

The event will still run regardless - food etc is all booked. We will be running races on the big screen from the early years if the race itself doesn't run but it seems to be all systems go at the moment.

Oiiii, just yanken your chain Gomi. The race is currently a go, but the quarantine is restricting a lot of the foreign runners from the gate. That will probably make a few of the punters happy anyway. They have all domestic runners that are easier to compare than if they have to consider the FG runners and there is always those who want it to be limited to Aussie starters anywhose!

.....and you pay for the meal. While you're at it, you might want to stand him a meal also. He hasn't been employed for a bit, with all that loitering around the Golden Gai.....

BTW, ahhh, will you be wearing anything with the hat?

I just turned down a trip to the race. No goats. (Actually, it was cancelled).
