Which is why I was interested to read this part of the Mainichi story:...under which patients will not be required to gain approval from the ethics committees of medical institutions, making it easier for those who suffer from gender-identity disorder to undergo such operations
The university's ethic committee approved the sex change operations on May 30. The go-ahead was given because officials believed other types of treatment would not cure the gender identity disorder and because the patients' families were ready to support them after the operations.
